Bird Watching

Enjoy the natural beauty and quiet of the cemetery of The Evergreens, but please do not overlook the sight and song of its wonderful birds during your visit. The trees, shrubs and open lawns are a natural habitat for many species of birds. Some stay year round, others are migratory, seasonal travelers passing through on their long journey to winter or summer homes. The cemetery is an important site for food and shelter for birds in New York City’s vast urban metropolis.

Here are just some of the many species of birds that can been found at The Evergreens:

  • Red Tail Hawk
  • Northern Flicker
  • Blue Jay
  • American Goldfinch
  • House Sparrow
  • Northern Cardinal
  • Rock Dove
  • Gray Catbird
  • American Robin
  • Northern Mockingbird
